The Legacy Multimedia Encyclopedia FAQs
My computer doesn't seem
to recognize the CD.
It keeps asking me to insert a Legacy CD.
This will happen if you have more than
one external drive. For example a DVD and a CD-ROM drive. Legacy needs to run in the first drive space. This is
usually 'D' drive. You can run Legacy from the DVD or change your drive letters so that your CD-ROM is the first
drive.
I can't play any video
files. I get a QuickTime error.
This is usually because the version
of QuickTime supplied with our software wasn't installed properly. You can have our version (2.1) and more recent
versions installed on the same machine. Go through the install again and when the QuickTime prompt asks if you
want to search for existing versions, say no. This will install our QuickTime and leave existing versions alone.
I'm running Windows XP
and get a system error when I run Legacy.
You may have to set the Windows Compatibility
mode on our software to Windows 95.
Follow these steps:
Using The Windows Application Compatibility Mode
When you use Windows Application Compatibility mode, many of the most common issues that prohibit earlier versions
of programs from working correctly are resolved. If you run a program and it does not function as expected, it
is recommended that you run the program in one of the compatibility environments. To run programs in Windows Application
Compatibility mode in Windows XP, follow these steps:
Right click on the link of the program that you want to fix.
Click on Properties .
Click on the Compatibility tab.
Click on Run
this program in compatibility mode and select: Windows
95
Installation

Hi there, I am pleased to say that I have my Legacy CD-roms set working. Though the technical advice given to me
was great, nothing seemed to work to set up the CDs. The computer wasn't doing anything to set the program up.
I found that with the newer PCs, the computer won't read some CAB (cabinet) files which are on the CD-roms.
To fix this problem I recommend downloading a trial version (purchasing is an option) of ZipScan from www.Softpedia.com.
After downloading this, the program will not yet read the CAB files because additional DLL files need to be downloaded
into the program. These can be downloaded for free by visiting www.webzila.com. The DLL files needed are (you can
copy and paste these if you like: ZD51145.DLL and ZD50149.DLL. Another way of obtaining these files is to download
both i5comp and i6comp files, but the previous are recommended ZD... These two DLL files need to be moved into
the folder in which the program ZipScan and all of its components are located eg C:\Programfiles\ZipScan. The program
should be run from this folder. Now that the additional files have been incorporated into the program (ZipScan)
the files from the setup CD-ROM can be extracted, I recommend extracting the files to a different location preferably
the desktop, making these files shortcuts to the CD-rom drive. Also the legacy icon on the CD-rom or the short
cut should be made compatible with windows 95 along with the other files on the CD as described on your website.
Then the CDs should work perfectly. I'm very impressed with them. Hope this helps other people with the same problem.
Thank
you
Siddhartha
