Interviewing General Choi
My favourite moment with General Choi would have to be when I interviewed him for Martial Arts Illustrated magazine
back in '98. I remember how nervous I was, sat in my hotel room waiting for the time to arrive. The interview went
well despite my nerves and was published in November 98's edition of Martial Arts Illustrated.
Another fond memory is also a painful one! We were all performing Do San Tul, when in his usual manner, he would
walk around making corrections. As he approached me he explained that wedging block should not be too wide, and
with this he promptly head butted me! And said; "See!" My eyes were watering and all I remember was the
tears rolling down my cheeks and me saying; "Thank you Sir". It was a truly surreal moment!
Other fond memories would include one time at a seminar, no one was performing hooking block to General Choi's
liking he kept saying "too hard" or "too soft" on the last day of the seminar I was chosen
to perform Choi Yong Tul and when I performed the first hooking block General Choi exclaimed "Ah! see, this
is how we do hooking block" At only 5 feet seven inches tall I can tell you I felt twenty feet tall that day.
I remember at the end of my IV degree testing General Choi smiling, shaking my hand and saying "Congratulations,
you are fourth degree"I remember how I felt at that moment as if it happened only days ago.
I will always remember the last words I heard General Choi speak. It was on the last day of a seminar held in Budapest
in March 2001. At the very end of the last day he said; "I know I will see you all again, at another time
and in another place" Then as now, it brought a tear to my eye.

My Favourite Memory
I had the privilege of meeting General Choi on quite a few occasions but my favourite memory of the General was
at the reception before the filming of the CD-Rom in Banff, Alberta. I was asked to attend and was able to bring
my wife and children. Both my children were students of Taekwon-Do at the time, my daughter being 10 and my son
being 7. My son got all dressed up with a tie on because "HE" was meeting General Choi. I watched with
pride as my children conducted themselves with humility and grace in the presence of our Founder. The picture we
had taken of myself, my children and General Choi still hang in their rooms today even though they no longer are
students of our martial art. My children were very upset upon hearing the news of his passing and both say they
will always treasure their meeting with General Choi
